Excellent condition 1980s vintage Schwinn long distance road bike, with all original parts and practically no wear; it even has the original 27 x 1 1/8” tires on it, in surprisingly good shape.
This bike was stored safely in a climate controlled environment by the original owner before it came to us, and it's begging to finally have the adventures it deserves with a new owner. It's a great bike for long rides, as well as commuting and casual rides. Schwinn billed it as a bike "for the rider who seeks adventure and recreation" in the 1988 catalog shown in the pictures here. This is a step-through model, originally designed for women, although the design makes for a comfortable fit for smaller riders of any gender.
Lugged True Temper steel frame, made in the USA, with decorative diamond/star shapedhe details under the bottle cage mounting points on the downtube. Shimano light action front and rear derailleurs, and indexed Shimano downtube shifters. 12 speed/2x6 gearing, with front chainrings erring on the speedy side (chainrings could be sized down for easier climbing on steep hills).
Dia Compe caliper rim brakes with dual brake levers on drop bars with white cable housing and white leather (or faux leather, not sure) bar tape on Sakae Road Champion drop bars and a black Custom quill stem. San Marco white saddle, with a small scuff and scratch. Still has the original HTI pedals with white leather and metal Christophe toe clips, Made in France. Maillard quick release hubs (made in France), and shiny Weinmann alloy 27x1 1/4" rims (made in Belgium).
The rear wheel has a decorative plastic spoke protector behind the freewheel, with no fading or cracks. Cat Eye reflectors on the wheels, pedals, front and rear. Comes with an original Greenfield kickstand installed for convenience.
This bike has been meticulously cleaned and restored to full functionality, and could be customized further with fenders, a rack for carrying gear, etc. The seat is a little scuffed/scratched from storage and the frame has a couple small dings as pictured, but overall it's in really lovely shape.
19" size (center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube) with a 20" reach (from center and an accomodating step thru frame with an approximate standover height of 25".
Original dealer sticker from Redmond Bicycle Shop, and a new Cycle & Coffee shop sticker to mark the beginning of this new chapter in the bike's history.
We also have a larger, non step-through Schwinn bike from the same household. That one has a bit more wear, but is also in great shape. We'll be posting it soon!
